Denon DN-X120 DJ product review

Small package…big sound

All good things come in small packages. We know the saying, and can admit that, at times, it is true. That must have been what the makers at Denon were thinking when they designed the DN-X120 mixer, which is about as compact as its replacement, the DN-X100, but offers a load of awesome features and incredible sound. Trust me, this is a product mobile DJs are going to love, as it’s said to be among the smallest mixers to date.

The DN-X120 isn’t just a cute mixer. Features:

  • (2) Line, (2) Phono/Line (switchable)
  • Mic input with 2-Band EQ
  • Mic talkover switch
  • 3 Band EQ with Full Kill
  • VCA, 45mm crossfader and channel faders
  • Crossfader contour
  • 4 position input/transform switch
  • Split cue
  • Fader Start on/off for crossfader and channel faders
  • TRS balanced and RCA unbalanced outputs
  • 10 segments level meter
  • Simple and easy operation
  • External power adaptor

Denon DN-X120

Honestly, there’s nothing special about Denon’s DN-X120 except that it’s compact and has everything working DJs need to mix with. Also, it has impressive sound quality that you don’t normally find at $299.99 MSRP. Every working DJ who owns this boasts about how easy it is to navigate, but when you buy it, you’ll also realize how easy it is to operate. Not only are the knobs and buttons where you expect them to be, they’re spaced nicely, providing enough "finger room", ensuring a comfortable performance. Did I mention they feel good, too? You would think flimsy comes with the price Denon is offering for their DN-X120, but every knob and button-that’s including the equalizers-will feel pretty damn firm.

Denon is known for making impressive DJ equipment with junk working DJs like, but don’t necessarily need (read up on the DN-S3500 if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Great product, but it has a lot of extra "fun stuff" that adds to the price). It’s refreshing to see how they’ve gone back to basics with their DN-X120 mixer. If you don’t care for all the knick-knacks that tend to bump up the price of your mixer, don’t look past the DN-X120. It’s surprisingly basic in the very best way. Team them up with Denon’s DNS1200 media players, and you’re all set.
