Tapco SW-10 DJ subwoofer

The SW-10 DJ subwoofer can punch any bass around for any working DJ

Don’t ask me about the name of this brand, will you? I don’t know whay they named it Tapco, for me it sounds more like some sort of soda drink brand rather than the high tech DJ products thay they really make, but…anyway, they do have some DJ equipment worth a look or two from any working DJ. And if my words aren’t enough for you, then maybe the fact that all Tapco DJ products have a serious Mackie engineering team doing the manufacturing for them may do the trick. And if in turn, you have no idea what’s the deal with Mackie, then, my friend, I’m afraid you have bigger problems that wether to buy or not to buy the SW-10 DJ subwoofer from Tapco.

So what’s the deal with the SW-10? It’s simple actually. Tapco has designed, with the same great help from Mackey, other two DJ speakers, the S-5 and the S-8. Here, you can even take a look at the S-5 post here, since I did have a go at them first. The SW-10 DJ subwoofer is Tapco’s proposition for the perfect choice of DJ product to go with their S-5 or S-8 DJ speakers. And as expected, the SW-10 is all the S-5 is and more, as it can truly put the DJ speakers it works with in another light.

The SW-10 does pretty well in its own right tough, and that’s mainly by providing working DJs with a flat natural bass that’s as low as 34 Hz. Not only low, but the SW-10’s bass is also strong enough to kick the mood up in any club and although the SW-10 itself is only 11.8×12x12.4 in (HxWxD) and weights around 28 lbs (or 12.7 kgs), it can be successfully used for any audio DJ setup from small DJ studios, home theater systems, desktop audio workstations or surround sound editing. This is all achieved through an acoustic suspension design that helps keep the low ends of the SW-10 very low and linear, and furthermore, the SW-10 has a special attraction for the low ends of a working DJ’s mix, as was expected. The SW-10’s crossover basically splits the low ends from the mids and highs in a track, which it then sends to whatever other DJ equipment is present in that DJ setup, such as DJ monitors, or speakers, and it just concentrates on booming the bass.

Although the SW-10 works best with the S-5 or S-8 DJ speakers from Tapco, as they’re basicallt from the same line of DJ equipment, this DJ subwoofer can be seamlessly integrated into any sound system and it’ll do one heck of a job anywhere, leaving working DJ at least acoustically satisfied. For this purpose, the SW-10 provides working DJs with left and right inputs on both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors, and for output, the SW-10 has dual high-pass outs for connecting either active monitors or passive speakers.

So here’s the basic breakdown of the SW-10 DJ subwoofer for the working DJs needing a little push to their low ends:

  • a flat frequency response from 34 Hz to 110 Hz (+/- 3 dB)
  • 10" high precision woofer with a dual voice coil
  • 120 watts internal amplifier, which helps the SW-10 give your bass the kicking it needs
  • user adjustable sensitivity control, at the working DJ’s disposal
  • the crossover is split to individual left and right 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley, adjustable from 55 Hz to 110 Hz
  • and on the rear panel, the SW-10 has the power switch and the AC voltage selector

With all the experience Mackey has in DJ equipment, you’d expect the SW-10 from Tapco to be well ensured against most types of shocks, and they are, so the working DJ can rest at ease, knowing his DJ subwoofer is inside the high strength 5/8" MDF composite cabinet, and inside it’s got a thermal switch and a peak limiter which go into action anytime the SW-10 gets too hot. Working DJ going at it really loud for really long might want to know that although the SW-10 is designed to perform at maximum efficiency, it will get hot after a while (a long while), and that’s when all the internal switches go haywire and you’ll see your bass dissappear completely, until the SW-10 cools down at least, that is…
