Retailers follow up on the DJ Hero craze offering pre-order bonuses
This is probably the last in a looong line of posts about DJ Hero, the music and rhythm game from Activision that’s going to be released in the near future. While gamers and working DJs who are expecting this have already made their decision, being a PC gamer myself, I’ve had quite enough with the DJ Hero craze that Activision and Freestyle Games succesfully created for their new game, sort of the follower of the original Guitar Hero.
By now people have started talking and the gaming websites along with some DJ related pages have targeted DJ Hero as their next topic to cover, so it’s easy to find previews of the game or even comments about the released demo. This, along with the experience most people had with Guitar Hero (in terms of content quality and gameplay) should be enough to get you on one side or the other of the barricade, at least until early 2010, until the official contender of DJ Hero, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is scheduled to come out.
By all standards, gamers can expect DJ Hero to be a close match to the old time favorite Guitar Hero, except for the music of course, which now consists of mash-ups and remixes from famous artists today of famous songs (full track list here). Otherwise, as far as graphics, gameplay, game organization and content quality, DJ Hero shouldn’t stray far from the pack led by Guitar Hero. That’s mostly a good thing, even though lack of originality could come to mind as a critic.

Nevertheless, retailers have gone into the same mindset as Activision and got into the craze caused by DJ Hero, so pre-ordering now could get you some nifty prizes and freebies. If you’re decided on getting one of the two versions of DJ Hero, then check out this list, some of the bonuses might ease your mind about the choice:
- Amazon offers $5 credit towards music featured in the game for both versions of DJ Hero
- Walmart gives away a $10 electronic gift card for any version pre-ordered
- Gamestop offers 2 free DLC downloads for any version (and there definitely are going to be DLCs released)
- the Guitar Hero Store offers 2 day free shipping, only for DJ Hero Standard version
- Hollywood Video/Game Crazy gives an exclusive slipmat for any DJ Hero Standard pre-ordered
- and Bestbuy offers the unlock code for a Daft Punk themed venue in the game
While I wouldn’t let any of these bonuses shift my decision 180 degrees, if you’re already contemplating getting a DJ Hero game, then these little treats might sweeten the deal.
