DJ Christopher Lawrence DJ Review

The top working DJ in America, Christopher Lawrence
It’s pretty hard to name just one guy to be the top working DJ, whatever the situation is, and all you got to do to convince yourself is check out the comparison attempt Ria made at Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Those guys are worldwide legends and there’s no way any other working DJ can compete with that, but there are also American legends who can rock a crowd just as well. Take the nominated best DJ in America in 2008, as DJ Times’ competition last year finished, and this year, it’s not through yet. Christopher Lawrence may not have the same wow factor to his name as Tiesto, for instance, but if you’re a trance fan, Christopher Lawrence is probably even better.
Christopher Lawrence started out as many other working DJs today, being a struggling bedroom DJ, mixing on his own. Now he’s a legend of trance music, progressive trance being his official specialization, as far as terminology is concerned. What made Christopher Lawrence famous are his mix CDs, of which he broke all selling records in the United States, not to mention he gained his titles and fame by mixing trance tracks together. It was in the late nineties that Christopher Lawrence really took off, with a string of mix CDs hitting the market, like Rise, Temptation, United States of Trance and Around The World.

Eventually, Christopher Lawrence managed to set up his own label (as most famous working DJs do nowadays), Pharmacy Electronic Music in 2006, and his subsequent release of Subculture again managed to attract attention. Christopher Lawrence is equally a talented and respected producer, although this part of his music career comes second to his trance mixing skills. He released 2 albums of his own, over 15 singles and EPs, not to mention his 11 top selling compilations.
Just take a look at some of Christopher Lawrence’s awards and public recognitions and you’ll see what a true working DJ career looks like:
- winner of the “Best American DJ” at the IDMA’s at WMC 2005
- voted the #4th DJ in the world by DJ Magazine’s prestigious ‘Top 100’ poll for 2006
- voted the 110th DJ in the world (true, not his biggest accomplishment) by DJ Magazine Top 100 poll for 2008
- "Best DJ" award at the Dancestar US Awards
- and probably the pinnacle of Christopher Lawrence’s DJ career until now, winner of "America’s Best DJ" 2008 held by DJ Times Magazine
If you think Christopher Lawrence in a one continent only DJ, then you couldn’t be more wrong, as he clocks up over a quarter of a million frequent flier miles a year and a list of international events too long to mention, including locations like China, Romania, UK or Thailand. And Christopher Lawrence actually spend a lot of his time flying and traveling from gig to gig, both nationally and internationally.
He still manages to be one of the most sought after American DJs at the moment, headlining famous events all over the country. As a unique accomplishment, Christopher Lawrence is the only American working DJ to be invited to headline all three inaugural Ministry of Sound, Cream and Gatecrasher tours in the states. So if you even considered trance music in a passing, then consider Christopher Lawrence’s skills and fame as the top American trance DJ.
