Eks Outus
Looks too good to be true?
I keep saying it, but, of late, DJ supply stores have been all about designing products with added convenience (such as DJ controllers) and designs that’ll blow your mind away. You may be ashamed to admit that, when you see a typical DJ product with a not-so-typical exterior, you’re instantly impressed and want to know more. Most working DJs are like that with their DJ equipment-it’s okay, just admit it. But is the aesthetics what really matters? No, come on! Or, are these suppliers creating a sexy design to bump up their price? Who knows. But when I see products such as the Eks Otus, I think: whatever happened to the good old days of simple Technics turntables and vinyl?
Eks Otus

The Otus is basically a DJ controller made out of "sturdy" aluminum for typical DJ abuse. The main thing that sets it apart from every other product is how it looks, but Eks also boasts the fact that it has a 7.5 inch jog wheel that has a circumference of LED illuminated lights so it can look good in a dark club, and working DJs will also see it better. With Eks’ Otus, less is more. You don’t need anything but the Otus to go from gig to gig, which makes it more valuable than diamonds and gold to mobile DJs. Also, working DJs get to choose their own software to tag team with the Otus (like the PCDJ Red Mobile), an option they would have with any other DJ controller. Eks proves that freedom is a right, not a privilige, in the design of their Otus. With assignable knobs and buttons and touch controls, the working DJ has more freedom at work.
As you can see, Eks’ Otus has features you would find on a lot of DJ controllers today, aside from the touchpad part. The MSRP is at $900, which in my book, is way too expensive. Working DJs do get mappable controls, a solid build, plus a few very clever and convenient features. But for nearly one grand? Eh. The build is too strange and the knobs and buttons too few for a price like that. The Eks Otus just seems like another futuristic looking product with your present day capabilities. You be the judge.
