The Karaoke Channel On YouTube

Free And Relevant Songs Rule The Karaoke Channel On YouTube

They stole my idea!!!

If you read my last WorkingDJ post on The Karaoke Channel, then you know that not only do I love Karaoke, but I also feel responsible for the rise in popularity of Karaoke that came about in New York City more than 15 years ago. And I also explained how online Karaoke put me out of business since a lot of people were discovering that they could host their own parties right from the comfort of their own homes.

But the current state of affairs involves logging in and being possibly bombarded by spam, or actually subscribing for a fee if you expect current music. Or the least desirable aspect: VFW style arrangements of totally crummy songs.

No more… now The Karaoke Channel has come to YouTube… and it’s HOT!!!

The Karaoke Channel On YouTube

Man. I feel used. I’ve been playing around with YouTube almost since the day it launched because I discovered how easy it was to upload video. That was something that was a problem at the time since most websites had their own requirements which involved a lot of transferring to the proper format and were constrained by low bandwidth that meant videos were limited to like a minute or two. Hmm… now that I think about it, YouTube stole my idea too!

But The Karaoke Channel has a novel approach that I would never have been able to match: fully licensed music with permission from the artists!!!

And I have been thinking for the last year or two that it would be great to have a karaoke channel on YouTube that would be relevant, with good video and with arrangements that sound like the original recording. JVC laserdisc kinda spoiled me back in the day.

Here’s a screenshot of one of their best and most current tracks…

If you click it you will be taken there and you can try it for yourself. And the best thing about it? You don’t even need a microphone! Just set the audio to room temperature and sing your heart out.

Of course you can also go the whole audio route with wireless duet mics and all… it’s wide open now.

If you are a working DJ with a WiFi setup, you should really check this out! No more library lugging, no more subscription fees and I guarantee as time goes by The Karaoke Channel will be adding tracks on a regular basis.

Exactly what I would have done.

If only I had a million dollars…
