Big decisions were made as the BET hip hop awards named its winners for 2009

It certainly seems like autumn is indeed the times of harvest, not only agriculturally speaking, but also for a good part of today’s music industry, including DJs and hip hop artists. Why am I saying that? Well, just about a week ago there reason the celebrate for all the trance listening fan base as well as a lot of trance DJs, as the Trance Awards 2009 named its winners. Big names came out on top, probably the best known working DJs around the world, from DJ Tiesto to Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and to the newer faces, led by Romanian female DJ Claudia Cazacu. And now the same reason for celebration applies to hip hop listeners and artists, as the BET hip hop awards announced its winners for 2009.

It all happened on Saturday, October 10th in Atlanta, although the show and awards will only be aired on October 27th, so there’s still some time before the main area of the public takes notice. The BET hip hop awards 2009 had their fair share of surprises and probably even tears, be it of joy or sadness (although hip hop sort of looks down on that kind of emotion showing activities). The main issue for the night starred the main character as well, but the hip hop artists couldn’t be there, because of legislative reasons. The man in question is T.I., who didn’t need to be in the public or even on stage to win. T.I. worked hard this year and it shows, as he scored two awards at the BET awards this year, both the best collaboration and the best album.

However, the rapper was unable to attend the festivities as he is currently locked up in an Arkansas penitentiary on a federal weapons conviction, which will keep him behind bars for one full year, starting May. His fiancee, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, was there to make a short speech on behalf of the hip hop artist and to accept the awards in his name. In short, T.I.’s letter read something like this: "Although I’m not there with you all, I’m there in spirit,…My road to redemption is almost over. … Thanks for the support.".

Another show stopped who wasn’t at the BET hip hop awards 2009 was Kanye West. Although expected to hijack the stage at this fourth annual awards show, Kanye West fell under scrutiny after interrupting the award winning moment of Taylor Swift at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards. In his place, Jay Z was there to take the stage, as he performed the Real As It Gets track with Young Jeezy. Also, as the blast from the past, rap group Goodie Mob was at this year’s BET awards to perform their 1995 piece, Cell Therapy.

Let’s go over the full list of the most important winners at the BET hip hop awards 2009 real quick:

• as I said, T.I. won the best album title for his Paper Trail and also the best collaboration, with Rihanna for Live Your Life
• Jay Z, the official performer at the BET awards also won the MVP of the Year award
• Drake took Rookie of the Year prize
• and Ice Cube received the I Am Hip Hop iconic award
• finally, rapper Busta Rhymes presented the DJ of the Year award, which was given to DJ AM, who died in August this year
