Rip Groove remix contest

Show your remixing skills with this classic, for prizes
I like to let people know about the contests around for working DJs or just talented bedroom DJs who want to get a break. Not only is it a good chance to test your skills in a live, judged, official environment but you can also win prizes which you otherwise would have to pay some big money for. This contest from DJdownload.com and Skint Records is a bit different, but the prizes are still there, and you’ll get the chance to test your skills. This time as a remixer, and you’ll get some major material to work with too, right from the archive of Skint Records, the Rip Groove album.
If you don’t know or haven’t heard about it, Rip Groove is actually somewhat of a legend in Great Britain, being dubbed to open the way for the early UK garage speed movement. It’s a sound with very long history that spans tens of years, probably with origins going to before most of today’s young DJs were born. The first release was in 1997 and it started out as a collaboration between Tim Deluxe and graphic designer Omar Amidora.
Rip Groove was first released on their label Ice Cream Records, as I said, in 1997, before being signed to Satellite Records and reaching a high number 14 in the UK national singles chart. Once it got there, Rip Groove held its ground for 6 weeks in the top 40 in Britain, so you know you’ve got some prime time material to work with.
What’s better is that club goers today will be able to tell you that Rip Groove is still getting the best of a dance floor once in a while, even after all this time passed, and it’s defined as a record that always defied trends and genres in clubland. Not an easy task to accomplish, and now you can get the chance to remix this classic for some interesting prizes. Even Eric Prydz (under his Cirez D alias) remixed Rip Groove in 2006, which was then released on Skint Records, the home label of Tim Deluxe as a solo artist.
Now 3 years have passed and Rip Groove feels the need for a fresh breath of air, so Skint Records and DJ downloads.com are organizing a contest for all you remixers out there. The only catch is that you have to own the remix material, that is to say the Rip Groove exclusive remix part bundle for the remix of Double 99 from DJdownload.com. So the main thing is you have to buy the remix part bundle for Rip Groove, and use them to create your own remix, which you can then just submit through the soundcloud dropbox with your details and genre for the remix.

The prizes are noteworthy and include:
- 1st prize consists of a Touch DVS package, a SoundCloud Pro account, your remix released on Skint Records and £50 credit on DJdownload.com
- 2nd prize is Skint Hoody, a SoundCloud Pro account and £30 credit on DJdownload.com
- 3rd and last is Skint T-Shirt, SoundCloud Pro account and £20 credit on DJdownload.com
The competition will run from the 30th July 2009 and closes at 23.59 (GMT) 14th September 2009 so there’s still time for you to buy and remix the part bundle Rip Groove, as users will be able to purchase the remix parts during all this time. The winners will be decided by the staff decision at Skint Records and will be notified until the 5th of October 2009.
Simple as it gets, so if you feel up to the challenge as a remixer or if you already know Rip Groove like the back of your hand and always thought it could use a bit of a makeover, and you’ve got just the thing, now’s the time to show it off to the world. Don’t forget your track will be released under Skint Records too, and a little exposure never hurt anybody in the working DJ business.
