Gemini Disc-O-Mix 3.0

I can’t believe this is a Gemini package

After recently doing a workingDJ post on Numark’s traditional turntable package, I decided it would be appropriate if I continued with a DJ package designed for the modern DJ; not a turntable package, but a CD package. Personally, for the best in DJ packages, I would usually look around Pioneer, Vestax, Stanton and Numark. But then these neat little boxes decorated with pretty sick DJ equipment caught my eye, and when I further explored the product, I found out that it wasn’t what I thought it was (a Pioneer DJ package) but in fact a Gemini package.

The one I had my eye on was the Gemini Disc-O-Mix 3.0, and since that’s too long a name to type several times, we’re going to cut it down and refer to it as just 3.0.

I was hesitant about reviewing it at first, thinking, "Okay, this is a nice enough package, but will working DJs want to buy it? It sure ain’t expensive, so maybe." And then I decided to go for it and write a review. Why? Because I’m confident it’ll meet up to your expectations.

Basically, it’s another DJ package for starters, also described as a bedroom DJ package. Perfect for bedroom DJs, not a good choice for pro working DJs. It’d almost be an insult to hand this package to a professional and expect them to do much with it. With that been said, it’s an exceptional (somewhat exceptional) package for a beginner DJ.

The DIsc-O-Mix package features:

• CDJ-10 (2) instant start, frame accurate CD players with digital outputs
• PMX-40 stereo DJ mixer with replacable crossfader
• PM-100 (2) self powered monitor speakers with cables
• EM-50 stereo light-wieght headphone
• GM-26 uni-directional microphone with cable clip and case
• DJC-1040AR aluminium trimmed carry case

Gemini Disc-O-Mix 3.0

The thing I like most about Gemini (and Numark sometimes) is that, when they design a package, they throw in a generous amount of equipment without inflating the price. In this case, they don’t stop at the turntable, headphone and mixer. They up the ante without upping the price. Pretty sweet deal.

PMX-40 stereo DJ mixer: This is a discontinued mixer "continuing" on in this little DJ package. In case you’re not getting a good look at the picture above, you can see it’s got major desirability, and not only that, the PMX-40 is so easy to understand, a two year old could master it. Furthermore, it functions the way a mixer should function. It has inputs and outputs, channel control, replaceable crossfaders-the works. Only problem is it’s not sporting EQs on either channel. However, it does have a three year warranty that’ll withstand the beginning phase every DJ goes through.

CDJ-10: I’m not going to say this is the most desired CDJ on the market, because it’s not. But it gets the job done, without overextending itself (look at the price; clearly there’s no above and beyond here). The CDJ-10 is a simple single disc direct drive CD player that has good controls, timing features and a nice LCD display. The pitch doesn’t offer much flexibility (+/-16%), but that’s the one downside to this CDJ-10. Come on, what can you expect with a price like this? It definitely meets expectations, and with a 3 year warranty, bedroom DJs can’t go wrong.

Unfortunately, the CDJs and mixer are the only two products I feel are worth going into explanation on, but the other features (carrying case, microphone, monitors, headphones) are the icing on this sweet cake. Although the Gemini Disc-O-Mix 3.0 is an incredible deal, the Gemini package to beat is the Gemini Disc-O-Mix 5.0. It’s the package everyone is talking about, buying and reviewing, and it’s also proudly endorsed by John ’00′ Fleming. This known fact is further proof that Gemini isn’t just an awesome name, but an awesome DJ supplier.
