Evans vs Moyles radio DJ showdown

Future BBC Radio 2 breakfast show radio DJ Chris Evans in competition with Chris Moyles
Although the area of the radio DJs isn’t as active or fast developing as that of regular working DJs in clubs, there’s quite a bit more competition to be had here. First of all, while there’s no real way to measure the popularity of a professional working DJ from behind the DJ turntables (most would say number 1 is DJ Tiesto, but even that’s open for debate), on the radio there’s the very tangible popularity notion quantified in your audience. The bigger your audience is, the better chance you have to keep your job as a radio DJ, and potentially even progress.
And there’s no greater competition than at the top of radio DJs, where personalities like Chris Moyles shine. BBC Radio 1 radio DJ Chris Moyles is actually the record holder for the longest running breakfast show ever on that radio station, which is no small feat, considering the size of it. More than that, DJ Chris Moyles managed to attract more and more listeners to his breakfast show, turning himself into one of the leader radio DJs.

On the other hand, we’ve got Chris Evans, a radio DJ who started out in 1993 as a presenter (that’s what they call the radio DJ in Britain) at Virgin Radio. From there on it was up, up and away for radio DJ Chris Evans, as he held the current breakfast spot that Chris Moyles has now for a while, then he bought Virgin Radio, resold it for a worthwhile profit and as of 2005, radio DJ Chris Evans is having a regular weekly show on BBC Radio 2.
And starting 2010, Chris Evans is setting up a showdown with radio DJ Chris Moyles, as he’s taking over Terry Wogan’s breakfast daily show at BBC Radio 2. In view of that, radio DJ Chris Evans is also putting some pressure on Chris Moyles, saying that : "He is playing to an audience that he is older than. And that is not going to work if he continues to do it. It will be very interesting to see what he does next.". In return, Chris Moyles thinks that over 2 million listeners will desert Evans’ radio show as he takes over from veteran Terry Wogan.
So the stage is set for a direct breakfast spot confrontation between radio DJs Chris Moyles and Chris Evans, starting 2010, one for BBC Radio 2 and the other for BBC Radio 2. I’m betting most of the radio listening British already have their preference, but it’s interesting to see who’ll have the upper hand in the audiences.
