Alesis RA300 DJ equipment review

The RA300 DJ amplifier from Alesis brings a fresh new amp solution for working DJs

Alesis is dedicated to a whole array of DJ and musicians targeted products, but they aren’t quite specialized on either one area. While with most DJ manufacturers that can be a bad thing, Alesis always proved to take a fresh look at whatever DJ product they’re working at, regardless of previous DJ equipment reviews of other similar DJ products, and usually, they manage to keep a very professional but also clean and neat feature list on their DJ gear. That’s what makes Alesis DJ equipment reviews worth reading, and what makes the Alesis DJ products worth using, because they do what they’re supposed to, not what others did first.

In this case, the new Alesis RA300 DJ amplifier does take a lot of its DJ product ancestors, but not other brands. Indeed, working DJs who’ve used Alesis DJ products for their amplifying needs will be more than familiar with the RA100 DJ amp, a trusty old  product that set the standard. As far as posts here, you can go check my DJ product review on the Alesis TransActive 50 amplification system for a look at what I mean by original.

So the RA300 DJ amp from Alesis takes a lot from the RA100 previous amplifier model, but for good reason, and you’d think if it were bad, Alesis wouldn’t continue the array of amplifiers with 3 more models, but the RA300 is not alone. It’s just the mid size, mid power model I picked in between the smaller RA150 and the larger RA500 to show the new series. So the new RA series, and the RA300 too, specialize on offering great power output for basically all kinds of speakers across the gamut. That’s not done through maximum output, but rather through the RA300 offering working DJs better performance at an overall lower cost per watt than any other model on the market.

Alesis RA300 DJ aplifier from Alesis, w/ great heat dissipation and no cooling fan

The clear and crisp sound provided by the RA300 would only be bad if it stopped when you didn’t want it too, so Alesis made sure the new RA series of amplifiers have advanced convection cooling for heat dissipation built in, which results in long times of continuous use without ever worrying about heat related problems, regularly the biggest problem for DJ amps. Even more so, the RA300 is so good at dissipating heat that it doesn’t even use a cooling fan on the inside, thus making basically no annoying noises or humming because of that.

What’s even more impressive is how the RA300 manages to keep all those convenience issues far away from the working DJ, while still providing the features and performance it does. And that’s next in our DJ product review:

  • the output for the RA300 is 150 watts per channel at 4 ohms, 90 watts at 8 ohms and a full 300 watts at 8 ohms in bridged mode
  • signal to noise ratio higher than 105 dB
  • very wide frequency response from 10 Hz to 70 kHz +0,-3 dB
  • and sound distortion keeps lower than 0.02% at 4 ohms for the RA300 DJ amplifier model

Occupying 2 rack units of spaces for the working DJ, the last thing that can be said about the RA300 is that it looks really beautiful compared to other models DJ amps (believe me, I’ve see a lot of them…). Being designed primarily for studio use, the entire RA series pretty much covers each and every amplifying desire a working DJ may have and it will satisfy in terms of price as well. Just take a look at it…
