DJ AM

DJ AM: The guy who dated Nicole Richie that one time…

In the DJ community, DJ AM is noted for his talent, the essence the drives him to succeed; deejaying. It’s the one thing that got him to the top, where today, he basks in the glory of his fame and fortune. For those on the outside, DJ AM is that off beat DJ who dated Nicole Richie, and then got engaged to her, and then split up (they were an unlikely pair, but not an unattractive, taboo couple) but then also dated Mandy Moore (Big mistake. Big, big, big mistake, Mandy Moore). He’s known for his  chaotic friendship with Travis Barker, his near fatal plane accident, and his ability to create typical controversial Hollywood news. And, most notoriously, he’s known for supposedly attempting to sue the deceased, which he adamantly claimed was false (I can believe that).

It’s safe to say that, those outside of the DJ community, and even a few on the inside, can question his presence across the TV stations, Page 6 of the newspapers and the glossy pages of celebrity magazines. Nevertheless, DJ AM is still good at the one thing that placed him on the map; being a working DJ. Unfortunately, his intermixing-often controversially-with the pop world has made me, personally, question why he’s so talked about. In my mind’s eye, he’s just the male version of Paris Hilton.

Celebrity/workingDJ, DJ AM

Others can strongly refute that. After all, DJ AM has accomplished an abundance of jaw-dropping things at his young age. For one, he’s been booked at so many of the nation’s hottest clubs, that he practically owns all of the Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York hotspots. To literally talk about ownership, I should also throw in the fact that he’s part owner of LAX, one of the hottest nightclubs in Vegas. He’s brushed shoulders with Hollywood’s elite, such as Lauren Conrad (her fifteen minutes aren’t up yet?), Haley Wood and much more.

So although I don’t like the fact that he’s among Hollywood’s most controversial B-listed youth (it make him look as shallow as a celeb, rather than as a deep as a musician), DJ AM has taken his popularity as a DJ (and as a somewhat celebrity) and has turned the less popularized trade of a working DJ into something of immeasurable, noteworthy heights. That, in and of itself, is pretty freaking commendable. I suppose his accomplishments are what everyone on the outside of the DJ community should take heed of.

Obviously, DJ AM isn’t among the elite DJs, like Grandmaster Flash, DJ Tiesto or even David Guetta. But he is one of the most popular, like Samantha Ronson and DJ Sammy, and he has thrown some light on the world of deejaying to those lost in the dark. Without a doubt. Furthermore, with his talent, his personality, and his entrepeneurship, DJ AM is much more than "The guy who dated Nicole Richie that one time…"
