Behringer Ultragraph FBQ3102 DJ equalizer

Working DJs get both equalizing and feedback detection in the FBQ3102
You know about the Behringer DJ products from the tons of reviews lying around, and if you’re reading WorkingDJ.com, you’ll also know that I, personally, like Behringer DJ equipment above many other DJ brands because they seem to offer a really well balanced quality and price. In some DJ product reviews, it was actually surprising to me that the quality and performance even outdid the price (in my terms). Working DJs will have different opinions, but one thing is for sure about Behringer. They could use some more pure DJ products. Even the one for my DJ product review today is an audio product that although might have uses for a working DJ, it’s not as essential as the DJ mixer, for instance. And that’s the Ultragraph FBQ3102 DJ equalizer.
Before anything, if you want a breakdown on other Behringer DJ products, check out one of my previous DJ equipment review, for instance the one on the PMH518M powered DJ mixer (again, not a pure DJ product).
The FBQ3102 DJ equalizer is more than just an equalizer, and while even those have a place in the DJ setup, the FBQ3102 can help basically all working DJ, mobile DJ, whatever they’re doing. The FBQ3102 is, first of all, a DJ equalizer, and it acts like one. It provides working DJ with a professional 31 band stereo graphic EQ that runs on the basis of ultra now noise, high quality, operational amplifiers. This makes for really great sound coming out of the FBQ3102, the kind that you’d expect from a German made piece of DJ equipment.

The FBQ3102 is housed inside a rugged all metal built chassis that can take the continuous use of everyday DJ’s life and make for a long life, and the high quality illuminated faders and switches and the detent potentiometers also hint towards complete trust from the DJ. The FBQ3102 just won’t let you down when you need it. The dedicated mono subwoofer output that has adjustable crossover frequency can be used to separate the outgoing sounds for an extra push to your mix, and of course, the 31 band EQ does a great job of optimizing the sound the way you want it.
The main part in the FBQ3102 isn’t any of this. I would say that’s the included patent pending FBQ Feedback Detection System, which working DJs can use to quickly reveal the nasty feedback frequencies, and it can also be used as an audio analyzer. This is automatically done but can also be bypassed if you so wish, although the FBQ system works great for both live and studio DJ applications, constantly showing and removing problems in your sound. Other features worth looking at in the FBQ 3102 DJ equalizer are:
- for additional control and sound fixing, there are sweepable high and low filters for each channel that can remove any floor rumble, hiss or unwanted frequency you wish
- with all this complexity, the FBQ3102makes it easy for the DJ to input his settings with the accurate 12 digit LED in/out metering and input gain control
- hard bypass through relay or auto bypass in case of power failure
- servo balanced inputs and outputs, 1/4" TRS with gold plated XLR connectors
- the ultra low noise is obtained through using a shielded toroidal power transformer
- for some tech specs, the frequency range is from 10 Hz to 30 kHz, +/- 3 dB
- signal to noise ratio greater than 94 dB
- total harmonic distortion typically 0.006% at 1 kHz
For what it does, the FBQ3102’s (link to PDF spreadsheet) dimensions are nothing to frown upon, Behringer managing to keep their DJ products reasonably small and acceptable even for the mobile DJ. The FBQ 3102 is 89mm x 482mm x 150mm (H x W x D) and weights about 2.5 kgs so there should be no problem carrying it from place to place, especially once you see the influence it can have on your mix.
