The DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC is an all in one package for the mobile DJ
Hercules has left quite a footprint in the DJ equipment review world and in the minds of working DJs, and through only on type of DJ products: DJ controllers. Hercules has all the DJ controllers a DJ could ever need, ranging from so small that you could mix on a bus to big and heavy and strong, ready for the big clubs and parties. One such DJ controller is one of my favorite Hercules DJ products and you can read the DJ equipment review on the DJ Control Steel here. However, we’re going back to small, portable and 100% digital today, and I’ll try to review the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC edition, which is Hercules’ way of saying "we know you DJs like Virtual DJ so here’s what we got for you…".
And in all honesty, there is probably no one single DJ software for the digital DJ that can beat Virtual DJ in fame or performance, although many have tried. Hercules comes up with the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC as a way of offering both the quality and on hands control of DJ controllers together with the pure mixing DJ software capabilities of Virtual DJ. As expected, DJ console MK2 -Virtual DJ DJC comes with a free included copy of the Virtual DJ DJ software, except this one is customized for DJ console MK2 users, and ships as the Virtual DJ DJC edition.
As for the DJ controller, the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC is pretty much a regular controller from Hercules, offering everything a working DJ needs for great mixing, recording or whatever related to DJ-ing. DJ product reviews show that the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC is an all-in one dual deck portable DJ mixer unit made for working with laptops or computers and for controlling, in this case, the Virtual DJ DJC edition DJ software. The DJ console MK2 is practically made for mobile DJs, coming in a strong metallic chassis of only 235×200x65mm / 9.4"x 8"x 2.6" in dimensions and weighting just over 1 kg (that 2.5 lbs).

The DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC offers the hands on control mobile DJs always wanted in a small package through high precision jog wheels emulating the two decks, buttons and controls made for DJ mixing and making for great tactile and precision adjusting. This Hercules DJ product review also insists on the complete portability and flexibility of the DJ console MK2, with all a mobile DJ really needs to get through a gig being a laptop and the DJ console MK2. The connection between the two is made through an included USB cable that also serves to power the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC, this way eliminating all needs for external power sources or other bulky adapters.
Let’s now get a short look at what a working DJ can expect from his DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC (link to PDF presentation sheet) in terms of performance:
- a complete solution for DJ mixing or recording, allowing for precise control of Virtual DJ DJC DJ software
- a customized version of Virtual DJ 3 DJ software, dubbed the VIrtual DJ DJC…
- that supports playing and mixing most digital file formats (MP3, CD, WAV, WMA, etc)
- and also some VJ option through support for video in window mode (AVI and MPEG file formats)
- the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC has few connectors, but they manage to cover all the areas a DJ could need
- with 2 line/phono inputs for both analog and digital files
- headphone monitoring output with mix and split cue functions
- and a microphone input for voice over
The Hercules DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC comes with a shoulder strap for easy carrying, a protection cover and a 2 m long USB cable, including the Virtual DJ DJC edition copy mentioned before in this DJ product review. This puts some system requirements on your computer (be it a PC or Mac, as DJ console MK2 is compatible with both), that are somewhere in the range of 1 GHz processor and 256 MB RAM (higher on Macs) on all 32 bit based operating systems. If your machine can run this, then you’re pretty much set with the DJ console MK2-Virtual DJ DJC…
