Marshall Electronics MXL DRK

The MXL DRK is the self contained all-in-one desktop recording solution

If we’re talking microphones of all kinds, we have got to be talking Marshall Electronics at some point. I’ve written some DJ equipment reviews about their mics before and they never seemed to falter. Because that’s whay you’re getting a microphone, besides recording quality; working DJs expect their mics to hold for a while. Well, the MXL DRK, which we’re going to try and write a MXL DJ products review today, is the sensitive one of the bunch, meaning it’s not meant to be handled like all the rest of its MXL series brethren (of which you can check out the MXL 770 here).

The MXL DRK is a nice, elevated, all white stylish microphone that’s designed to serve as a fully self contained recording solution for working DJs or anyone who needs to record straight from their desktop or computer. So you see, this is a DJ products review about something that you’d mostly keep in house, right beside your desktop, where it’s nice and warm. That doesn’t mean the MXL DRK can’t be moved between computers. With a weight of barely 2 lbs and dimensions of 47mm x 190mm, this DJ microphone can be carried easily in one hand or put in a bag where there’s little space remaining. Once you got it where you want it, just plug the MXL DRK in again and you’re ready to record.

So what can DJs record with the MXL DRK and how does it do the trick? Well, for the uptight DJ microphone that it is, the MXL DRK isn’t really pretentious at all, and it can record pretty much anything that happens around a regular desktop. For all working DJs care, if they have their DJ setup around there, the MXL DRK could be the only recording solution they’ll ever need for their mixes, because it actually does a great job. The MXL DRK desktop DJ microphone is perfectly suited for all your DJ instruments, and music making gear, and it just takes the sound in like there’s no tomorrow. The MXL DRK isn’t only prone to instruments and music, so it can certainly go under voice over DJ equipment reviews. The only little issue you may have is you might have to get an optional MXL iBooster for the MXL DRK to work really great for podcasts and voice recording on Macs(voice overs included).

SO, here’s what the MXL DRK desktop microphone offers in the package and technically to the professional recording DJ at home:

  • the MXL DRK can be your one stop recording solution for professional sound or music right at home
  • it’s a self powered large diaphragm condenser microphone that works great with everything from vocals, acoustics, instruments or voice overs
  • the MXL DRK comes complete with everything you need to set it up and start recording right away
  • …microphone clip, desktop stand, battery and recording guide
  • …XLR cable with XLR-to-mini plug adapter and then a separate mini-to-1/4 inch adapter, so the MXL DRK goes almost anywhere
  • it works on 9 V battery or 48 V phantom power
  • and technically, the MXL DRK has a frequency range of between 30 Hz to 20 kHz
  • output impedance of 200 ohms
  • signal to noise ratio of 80 dB and a maximum SPL of 134 dB

And last, but not least, the metal white finish which gives it sort of a special look. But anyway, whatever your recording needs are and they happen to be near a computer somewhere, then you’ve probably got it made with the MXL DRK, and this DJ microphone review can only encourage you to let loose your creativity online.
