Numark X6

Who says to get a lot you have to spend a lot? Not Numark.

With quality in design, high demand and a whole lot of inspiration, Numark built three new lines of DJ mixers, totaling at 13 new models in all. They didn’t build something you’d find concocted in an A&H lab, as Numark’s latest mixers have simplicity written all over them. Fortunately, the designs have remained as hot as ever. And the price? Well, let’s just say they have entry level prices with pro DJ quality.

Among these 13 new models was the Numark X6, a two channel digital scratch mixer with BEAT SYNC digital effects with wet/dry controls. Others in the X series include the X1USB and the X9. (Click on the X9 for a workingDJ review.) It’s important to note that it’s called a "scratch mixer", but it’s not ideal solely for scratching DJs. DJs who just want to mix like you would any other mixer (one not specified as a scratching mixer), can do it with absolutely no problems.

If you love digital quality, then you’ll love the X6, because Numark tag teamed it with Alesis technology, which allows it to produce 100% digital signal path. Can’t get much more digital than that. Other features of the Numark X6 include:

  • Two-channel digital, tabletop mixer
  • 24-bit, no-noise, no-distortion digital mixing with Alesis technology
  • Digital effects interface with 12 BEAT SYNC effects with wet/dry control
  • Vocoder, Tape Echo, Echo, Flanger, Phaser, Filter, two type of Reverbs, and more
  • Inputs: two phono/line switchable (RCA), three line (RCA), mic (1/4")
  • Outputs: Balanced (1/4"), Master (RCA), Record (RCA), Headphone (1/4" stereo)
  • D-Type digital crossfader with reverse and continuously adjustable slope control
  • Microphone channel with gain, EQ, on/off switch, and aux input
  • Three-band rotary EQ, three-band push-button Kills and gain on each channel
  • Mini-crossfader cueing

The X6 offers Beat Sync effects such as Vocoder, Echo and more!

Numark X6

After reviewing this mixer, I found very little I have to say against it. It’s a 24 bit mixer that offers no distortion and no noise while you’re mixing. Navigating will come naturally, because you’ll find all the basic features on the X6, such as the switchable phono/line inputs on every channel, 3 band equalizers and 3 band push button Kills, as well. It offers a mic input channel that has its very own line input, which Numark added so working DJs can have extra flexibility. DJs will also find that the mic channel has dedicated gain, EQ and silent on/off controls.

I have to say that Numark did a good job taking the X6 to the next level with the BEAT SYNC effects, such as:

  • Vocoder
  • Tape Echo
  • Echo
  • Flanger
  • Phaser
  • Filter
  • Two type of Reverbs
  • And much more!

My only advice when you buy the X6 is this: if you have the money to buy yourself an innofader, don’t hesitate to get it. The crossfader is pretty smooth and clean, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a series of problems with it. Problems that wouldn’t occur if you coughed up the dough for the innofader, if you have it of course. Some mixers can perfom just fine without; with the Numark X6…get one!!

Aside from that, I don’t think many DJs will have any complaints. Check out this clip from youtube which shows not just the X6, but all the latest Numark models.
