Gruv Glide record treatment

Overall vinyl performance enhancing with Gruv Glide
This time I’m going to go back into that gray area of auxiliary DJ equipment. That is to say DJ products you don’t necessarily need to have to show up to a gig or to produce great mixes, but that are made to make a working DJ’s life easier when they’re used. Gruv Glide is such a DJ product, aimed straight at working DJs still spinning old school vinyls , and it’s quite a surprise to see a modern DJ product that enhances the older ways of DJ-ing. Although patented on American DJ equipment market since the ’70s, Gruv Glide only started being sold in 1981, and even so, it didn’t get the attention it deserves until recently.
So, what exactly is Gruv Glide? Pretty simple, actually…Gruv Glide is a dry record treatment solution, and while most record treatments for DJs just do the cleaning, Gruv Glide is about so much more than that. I mean sure, it does the record cleaning for the working DJ, but have you ever heard of a cleaning solution for your vinyls that also makes them sound better. And by that I don’t mean imperceiveably better, no…I mean Gruv Glide really boosts the music on your records, making it more precise and increasing the fidelity. What vinyl spinning working DJ doesn’t want that?
It’s been a long time peeve of working DJs with how DJ turntables actually produce music, with the needle having to capture every single groove on the record for maximum accuracy of the output sound. Even so, developments have usually happened on the DJ turntables part of things, making the cartridge and needle way more modern than the concept is. Gruv Glide is a solution that will improve this problem for working DJs without them having to spend the big bucks on some state of the art DJ turntable. If you’re satisfied with how your DJ turntable works, but would like a little more fidelity and quality increase in your sound, then Gruv Glide might just be the way to go. And with a retail price of 30$ for a Gruv Glide kit (which will supposedly hold for 150 record applications), there really isn’t any downside to it.

Now, I can’t go around posting the composition of Gruv Glide, that’s pretty top secret and only came out after years and years of experiments by the original Gruv Gliders, back in the 70s, but I can tell working DJs what advantages they can expect from the Gruv Glide today:
- the first and most important part of using Gruv Glide on your records is that you can expect a noticeable increase in sound fidelity
- Gruv Glide is also a cleaning solution, so it also cleans your vinyls
- removes the nasty static
- improves the record tracking on whatever DJ turntable you might be using
- one Gruv Glide kit treats 150 records when used as directed
- even better, Gruv Glide actually increases the life span of your stylii, cartridges and records by decreasing friction during playing
- and you need to apply once per each side of the record for maximum protection
Gruv Glide is also easy to apply and the kit contains everything you’ll need to make your records glide, from the solution itself (4.5 oz of it), two application pads, directions and a static tester. The directions consist actually of 4 easy steps which a working DJ can do right before a gig or whenever, considering a Gruv Glide application lasts for an undetermined period of time, and the steps are represented on the Gruv Glide website along with all the other information that might interest you.
Given the numerous advantages Gruv Glide brings for the vinyl spinning working DJs, the low price and the fact that it’s a pretty original DJ product, I would say you definitely need to at least give it a try before dismissing it. It’s the one service your records would ever ask of you…
