Gemini CDT-05: Ultimate 2 in 1 Unit

Gemini CDT-05
Let’s talk about 2 things every DJ can appreciate: The first thing? Turntables. Just like a painter needs a brush, all DJs need a turntable. The second is Gemini, a DJ equipment company that came out with the first amazing hybrid turntables; the much loved combination of a DJs classic rotating platform, uniquely designed to accommodate:
- Vinyl
- CDs
- CD-Rs
- CD-RWs
- MP3s
I’ll start off by saying that if you’re an avid battle style enthusiast, maybe the Gemini CDT-05 isn’t for you. While it is amazing–an undeniable fact–it’s never "fun" to purchase something that doesn’t cater to your style at a percentage of 90 to 100 percent or greater (yes, greater than 100%). All Gemini Hybrids are satisfactory in reliability, but can be a pain in terms of performance when it comes to scratching. Hopefully with all misunderstandings of the Gemini CDT-05’s level of performance now aside, I still hope everyone goes out and purchases a Hybrid–they’re great.
But if you’re not as fond of the battling style, we can move on to what makes The Gemini CDT-05 so awesome:
- Removable, virtually unskippable straight tone arm system
- High-Torque Direct Driven Platter–provides full control over CD playback
- Independent audio outputs for turntable and CD sections
- Soft touch buttons with bright LEDs
Above, I’ve only listed a few. A quick visit to the official website of GEMINI will provide any curious readers with a whole lot more information.
In my opinion, the Mix Mode is the CDT-05’s most valuable feature, because it allows DJs to operate both vinyls and CDs on the same deck. Simultaneously. AKA, at the same time. AKA, synchronously. AKA, together. Alright, I guess you guys get the picture. Mix mode rocks. When you’re not on CD Mode or Vinyl Mode, to get things started, all you have to do is use the motor on/motor off button for your vinyls. When you want to work on the CD portion, press play/pause. This is another neat display of simplicity I’d like to start seeing with all DJ manufacturers.
If you take a good look at the vinyl section, you may notice some similarities between this and the TT turntable series. If you’re a fan , then you may feel less apprehensive in terms of dependability, or even durability. What you also might see is that, with all those knobs and buttons, this unit might be a little tricky to use at first. That’s not the case at all. Most DJs find easy-use with the CDT-05 from the very start.
I’ll continue with the positive attributes: this sleek hybrid turntable is very compact and good for DJs who are always on the go and don’t need heavy equipment to hold them back. Also great for DJs whose "digital entourage" barely provides any room for much else, but could use conveniently sized hybrid turntables.
To conclude all of this, Gemini has created a unit that flirts with both traditional and modernized mixing approaches. The CDT-05 performs the difficult task of bringing the sounds the DJ wants to hear without shedding its layer of convenience and easy-use. It’s a keeper in my book.
