Native Instruments Traktor Pro
If you’re a disc jockey whose dedicated your life to looking for software on the market that can make the best music, then you probably know a thing or two about Native Instruments Traktor software. Noted for its elegance and dependability, Traktor has been ruthlessly crushing its competition as it makes its way to the top. Although the competition is fierce (Serato is a competitor not a whole lot of DJs can diss on), for the past ten years or so, Native Instruments has proved to the world that it won’t go down without a fight. You can find the latest versions of Traktor software in 2 forms: Traktor Pro, and Traktor Scratch Pro.
Scratch Pro has got everything an established DJ is going to both need and want, but I’ll leave a description of Scratch Pro for another day or another blogger.

Right now, I’m talking about Traktor Pro–this software is both Mac and PC friendly and is great for well known disc jockeys who have already established an unforgettable identity at the clubs, disc jockeys who are just beginning to make it in the business, and even wannabe disc jockeys. (Don’t take offense to the word ‘wannabe’. This just describes the group of disc jockeys who have the passion, but don’t yet harness the necessary experience or DJ equipment–those who are cultivating their skills in their parent’s basement, rearing to show it off in the clubs).
Native Instruments knows that an organized format is important, which might very well be why they built Traktor Pro into 3 simple sections:
- Header Section
- Browsing Section
- 4 Deck Mode
Whatever level of expertise you think you claim as a DJ, simplicity from Traktor Pro will be met throughout the entire navigation process. It was designed so that all DJs can focus on their creative ability, to work on their sound, gather a vibe their audiences can relate to, etc. All other functions that are necessary but all DJs hate to do can be left in the hands of Traktor Pro. This software proves that "user friendly" can be more than a insignificant phrase used by leading DJ manufacturers to "pretty up" products so they can appeal to the masses. They really have managed to make highly advanced controls and tools into a "user friendly" format.
There’s more good news out there: if you don’t believe me, and if you don’t believe all of the other reviews and Native Instruments guarantee (which is understandable), then you can download a free version for about 30 days. Test it out. See what you think. If you like it, go ahead and buy it. If you hate it…well, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.
Here are some additional features all disc jockeys might like:
- Traktor Pro offers a tutorial DVD for purchase
- Compatible with most file formats
- Professional DJ software featuring 4 playback decks
- Auto Loop makes it easy to create synchronized loops on the fly with precise control over loop In/Out points
- Crate Flick allows for browsing a music collection using cover art that shows the top portion of each track’s cover while "flipping" through, just like digging in a record box
And much, much more…
Dependability. Simplicity. Longevity. Need I say more? Yes: Software has never sounded so good.
